Never Pass Up The Pyrex

Why do I adore Pyrex? My husband cracks up when we go thrifting and I spy a cute bowl. He says "better grab it Deb, before some crazy Pyrex woman snatches it up".

I grabbed these up at the Goodwill in a jif.  That Corning ware loaf pan just made my day

Finding these butter yellow and sage colored hot pads was a sweet bonus.

We all have our "crazy" obsessions. What's yours?

So Long Summer

Goodbye August......it's been a great summer.

Yep, it's that time of the year. Back To School

 Reading, Writing & Arithmetic

I played around with my little old school desk today. I put together a little vignette to get my son in the mood for school.
I found the little boots & pencil box at the Thrift Shop
A little "school days" garland on my rooster lamp

 Time for class
An apple for the teacher of course.

Debbie

Baking Makes It Better

I got my Thrift Store Rooster Platter out and decided I wanted to bake some cookies.

Firing up the oven didn't cool me off but it quenched my desire for fall.....well kinda.  Preheat oven to 350 when its 100 degrees out doesn't make my husband smile but my cookies sure do.

The little sign I have hanging in my kitchen reminds me that soon fall will be here and our home will be warmed by the heat of the oven while a homemade apple pie bubbles away.

Seasoned with delightful spices and lots of love
 Cooling in the window

Oh Fall, I welcome you with open arms!!

Yearning For Fall

Its HOT!

Enough is enough already.....I welcome Fall with open arms. I am so looking forward to cooler nights, shorter days and the scent of Apple Pie baking in my oven.
My red candy scale has me in the mood for decorating my kitchen. I am constantly changing things around

I cleared off the top of the refrigerator. I like the simplicity of my little display
The little red basket holds my salt & pepper shakers & a little sunflower love

I found the lazy susan at the thrift shop and put together this little vignette

Picked up this little red sugar bowl at an antique shop for $5.00. The gal said its from the 1940's.

I think it looks cute on my coffee station
My sweet husband found this toy toaster and knew I would flip for it
This little cubby in my kitchen is where I like to display all the little treasures I find.

Hope you are keeping cool in your neck of the woods. School starts in a couple weeks for my son so its back to the schedule and routine.
I have to say, I enjoy the lazy days of summer but there is something to be said for the organization and discipline of a schedule. Bed time is earlier and the house settles down sooner and it just feels right.

Debbie

This & That

I love my new little stool! I had one just like this when I was a little kid and when I saw this over the weekend at a little antique shop, I just couldn't resist. My parents didn't use a stool for "time out" (they used a paddle), it was used for a multitude of practical things like a boost up to the sink to wash our hands and brush our teeth. We might have watched a little tv too but always as a family.

I think it looks so cute on the fireplace in our den.

I adore "old" homemaking books. This "Homemaking Guide" was published in 1937. My mother was a year old just to put things into perspective.
I added this one to my collection for under $5.00

It has tabs for sections that include Etiquette, Setting A Table, Exercising, Caring For Sick Children. I love how old-fashioned it is yet so practical.

The instructions for wash day give detailed directions in the sorting of laundry, water temperature and how to treat stains depending on fabric type. The chapter begins by stating "Rules for sorting clothes are the same for non-automatic, automatic, or hand-operated washing machines". Wow, we have come a long way havent we?

I love my little "baker girl".  She was on a wee little shelf at the Goodwill and begged me to take her home.

I have loved to bake since I was a young girl of maybe 12 or 13. My mom always let me go in the kitchen and make whatever my imagination (and recipe) called for.

Hope your weekend has been good.

Mine sure has.

Debbie

Roses in a Teapot and I'm a Winner!

Enjoying my roses in a simple white teapot
I won a giveaway from one of my favorite blogs. Nancy Jo is sweet and thoughtful and her blog is always a joy to visit. I just love to read her posts and see the treasures she shares.
Thank you Nancy!

It sure has been hot here, we are staying in this weekend. Projects around the house will be the priority.

Whats the weather like where you live?

Debbie
